Corporate and Small Business Volunteers
Many large corporations and small businesses encourage their employees to volunteer for nonprofit organizations in their local communities. The employers offer flex schedules and/or paid time off, promoting volunteerism, health of employees, and community involvement. Some employees volunteer on an individual basis to organizations that they have a personal connection to, while others prefer to volunteer as a group, choosing an organization with mission and needs of mutual interest.
Senior Services offers many opportunities for corporate and small business volunteers to give of their time and talents. Here are just a few:
- Getting together as a team to do chores for a senior living alone in our community, for example, spruce up a yard, make minor home repairs, or add a coat of fresh paint to a room
- Packing shelf-stable meals for homebound seniors to have on hand in case of a hurricane, snowstorm, or other emergency
- Registering seniors for farmers market coupons, which allow them access to fresh fruits and vegetables which may otherwise be too expensive for them to afford
- Visiting senior centers to help serve communal meals, play games, and help with special events, such as holiday celebrations
