Senior Services of Southeastern Virginia (Senior Services) respects your privacy and is committed to ensuring the security of information you submit to us. The following Privacy Policy informs you about how and why we collect any personal information about you and how we use that information. Your accessing and continued use of our site signifies your explicit consent to these terms and conditions and data practices of our Privacy Policy.

Unless otherwise required by applicable law, any and all information collected at this Senior Services of Southeastern Virginia and The Center for Aging website, www.ssseva.org, will be kept strictly confidential and will not be sold, reused, rented, loaned, or otherwise disclosed.

We maintain our records in accordance with the obligations as defined by applicable Virginia statutes, including, but not limited to, the Virginia Privacy Protection Act of 1976, the Virginia Freedom of Information Act, and by any applicable U.S. federal laws.

Automatically Collected and Stored Information

We endeavor to collect only the minimum amount of information needed to provide services. If you do nothing during your visit to Senior Services’ website but browse or download information, we automatically collect and store the following information about your visit:

  • The Internet domain and IP address from which you accessed our site
  • The type of browser and operating system you used
  • The date and time you visited this site
  • The pages visited
  • If you linked from another website, the address of that website

The information collected is used to improve the content of our web services and to help us understand how people are using our pages. We analyze our website logs to continually improve the value of the materials available on our site. SMS Terms & Conditions

We may use your phone number to contact you via phone call or SMS/MMS messaging, pertaining to your inquiry, registration, or donation.

  • Program description: When opted-in, you will receive text messages (SMS/MMS) to your mobile number. These kinds of messages may include a response to an inquiry, real-time texts to ask and answer questions about our services and pricing, and appointment confirmations.
  • Frequency: Message frequency will vary depending on the conversation.
  • Opt-out: You can opt-out of this service at any time. Just text “STOP” to the phone number. After you text “STOP” to us, we will send you an SMS reply to confirm that you have been unsubscribed. After this, you will no longer receive SMS messages from us. If you want to join again, just sign up as you did the first time or text “START,” and we will start sending SMS messages to you again.
  • Help: If you are experiencing any issues, you can reply with the keyword HELP. Or, you can get help directly from us at 757-461-9481.
  • Interruption: Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.
  • Cost: As always, message and data rates may apply for any messages sent to you from us and to us from you. If you have any questions about your text plan or data plan, it is best to contact your wireless provider.

Information We Collect from Others/Third-Party Partners or Vendors

We may receive information about you from other sources. For example, if you use a third-party software through the site, such as an online payment or registration application through our Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software, they may transfer information to us for fulfillment, etc. You can view their Privacy Policy here.

We may process information using cookies. A cookie is a small data file that we download to your computer, containing information about you to facilitate interaction with our site and services. Newsletters

On the Website, you may subscribe to our newsletter, which may be used for advertising purposes. All newsletters sent may contain tracking pixels. This includes your social security number, information regarding race or ethnic origin, political opinions, religious beliefs, health information, criminal background, or trade union memberships. If you elect to submit such information to us, it will be subject to this Privacy Policy.

Children Under Sixteen

Senior Services of Southeastern Virginia does not intentionally target our site or our services to children, and Senior Services of Southeastern Virginia will not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of sixteen. If a parent or guardian believes that the Website has personally identifiable information of a child under the age of 16 in its database, please contact us immediately at djames@ssseva.org. and we will use our best efforts to promptly remove such information from our records.

Senior Services takes very seriously the security of the information we collect and maintain. To prevent unauthorized access or disclosures, we utilize physical, electronic, and procedural safeguards to protect all of the information we collect and maintain, including any personal information you voluntarily provide. Please be aware that, although we endeavor to provide appropriate security for the information we collect and maintain, no security system can prevent all potential security breaches.

When our registration or order forms ask you to enter sensitive information (such as credit card number), that information is encrypted for transmission. When you provide information via these forms, we use SSL encryption and this should be indicated by a “lock” icon in web browsers.

Senior Services may change and update this Privacy Policy from time to time, including materially changing the use made of personal information described herein. Any change or update to our Privacy Statement will be posted on our Website under “Privacy Policy” at least 30 days prior to implementation.
